Holy buckets, you guys. It's hot. This is not news. The end is in sight and I'm SERIOUSLY looking forward to low/mid 80s coming up here next week. I miss being outside! We can't even go outside after dinner b/c it's still 90something degrees out and humid as the tropics. Sigh. Soon, friends. Soon. And when the time comes, we have TONS of outdoor water activities to keep us busy.
Yesterday was the 4th of July. We had a bit of a par-tay over dinner and everyone left by (kidlet) bedtime. It was nice to see everyone except Hadley. Around 1pm yesterday afternoon, someone flipped a switch with the kid and we were transported back to newborn stage where she
screamed cried in our faces for no reason and nothing stopped it. Then she aspirated some formula/spit up and was scared of her bottle for several hours. Eating? Ha. Didn't even attempt. She wouldn't sleep, as she'd nod off for two or three breaths and pop back up in hysterics. It was awful. Mary, our sitter, attended our party and was magic (as usual) and was at least able to keep her from screaming as much, but she finally fell asleep for about an hour and a half and woke again at 8:30 or so. We put her jammies on, fed her a good sized bottle, and put her happy self down for the night. Yup, she was happy when she woke up and acted like she was a normal baby and not the
diva baby who had something seriously wrong with her earlier in the day. Either way, Happy 4th of July!
In other news, our vacation to Wisconsin Dells is coming up in TEN days. I think we're all counting down and more than a little excited. I'm praying the weather isn't atrocious one way or the other at least most of the time and that we will be able to use our daily free Mt. Olympus passes to their fullest extent.* Other plans include the zoo and now that I'm thinking of it, doing some research to find some other family/baby friendly things to do. We've done Tommy Bartlett, we don't need such things as Ripley's Believe it or Not museum, but either way, we could just be away and swimming the whole time and I'm going to be a happy camper.
In Hadley news, she's now sitting on her own. I never know when to call this as a skill but now that she can sit for up to a minute without touching anyone for support (but then promptly falling over b/c I thought she was doing awesome), I'm going to call her an independent sitter. Supervised sitter. Sure. She's also trying her damnedest to crawl but it's not working quite yet. Shoot, she's going to figure this out FAST once she gets there.
Hadley now bats at things with all her might when she doesn't want them. This is especially fun when you have your A- game on and don't see her fists flailing at your spoon full of baby food goop. She does, however, think it's positively HILARIOUS when you lick her fingers off b/c heaven forbid you leave her to get a washcloth and envision where all that goop is going to be when you get back.
Morgan is full of one-liners and she doesn't even know it. She is hysterical to listen to and just from today alone she had a few zingers that left her laughing along with us once she realized how funny she really was.
Scene: She was sad about something so she asked to talk to Adam. We called him and had him on speaker phone. talk talk talk blah blah blah and all of a sudden she looked at me, looked at the phone, and said, "Daddy, I'm all done with you now. Bye." and walked away. Uproarious laughter ensues...
Scene: We had just left HyVee where we had eaten dinner and Adam had given Morgan some of his fortune cookie as her dessert (remember? This kid must have dessert at all times. Seeing as how she's a bean pole, I'm ok with her having small desserts for 2/3 meals a day). So we're on our way to Menards to look at some tile for a potential overhaul of our ugly bathroom floor (sale! why not?!) when Morgan asks for dessert. Somehow it came along that I said, "I think you already did (have dessert)." Morgan came right back with, "I think I already didn't! HA HA HA HA HA!!!" Again, hilarity all around the truck.
It's been fun lately around the Schmidt household. One quick thing though that Adam was more than delighted to hear...I am feeling even more at peace with the idea that we are done done done with babies and that our family of 4 is complete. I leave behind some of these not-so-desireable baby things (crying, poop all over sometimes, up in the middle of the night, the list goes on) and when we leave one of these less fun things behind, I'm not sad. It's sort of like woo! Won't have to do that again...although I do find myself snuggling her a little extra here and there b/c I'm still very much awwwww, that's the last time I'm going to snuggle a tiny person that's all my own...either way, it's time to be done or I'll go back and forth on this topic all night long. Happy 4th week, friends!
*Note to self - buy stock in baby sunscreen and aloe vera (for mom and dad) before leaving.
